Thankful Thursday – Dr. Timothy George

TimothyGeorgeOn this Thankful Thursday, I am grateful for the gifts that Dr. Timothy George brings to my life. Not only is he a gifted scholar and an outstanding presenter, but he is an inspiration to know. I first met him when he presented at the Hamrick Lectures in 2009 and was touched by his deep humility. He came back to deliver the annual French Sermon at the Huguenot Church of Charleston and our friendship grew. His lectures at the Hamrick Lectureship this year were truly outstanding. As much as I am impressed with Timothy George the scholar/theologian, I am impressed with Timothy George the man. He represents the character of our lecture program. I am grateful for the contributions he makes to my life. He is the dean of Beeson Divinity School of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

Thankful Thursday is a day set apart to recognize the contributions of someone to our lives and to let her or him know of our gratitude. Develop an attitude of gratitude. Say Something Nice; Be a Lifter. You will be glad that you did.

Thankful Thursday – John A. Hamrick Lectureship Committee

On this Thankful Thursday, I am grateful for the members of the Hamrick Lecture Committee. We have just held our 19th annual lecture series. These volunteers work together in an effort to insure the success of the series. The lectureship is supported financially by contributions. Dr. Hamrick influenced the lives of so many people in his 29 years at First Baptist Church and then serving as founding president of what is now Charleston Southern University.

The lectureship started with just an idea. This committee made it a reality. Through all these years the congregation of First Baptist Church has provided space, administrative assistance and encouragement. The lectureship is a gift to the community and reaches an ecumenical audience. After the Monday program, the Joy Club of the church provides a wonderful Soup and Cornbread lunch for all who attend. The roster of speakers for the 19 years is truly amazing. I am grateful for every one of these gracious leaders.

On this Thankful Thursday, I am very grateful for the members of the committee: Mrs. Joyce Bagwell, Rev. R. Marshall Blalock, Rev. Phil Bryant, Dr. Malcolm Clark, Mervyn Gibson, Mrs. Carol Ezell-Gibson, Mrs. John A. (Jane) Hamrick, Mrs. Nancy Hamrick, and Rev. Bernett Waitt. I am privileged to serve as chair.

Thankful Thursday is a day set aside to recognize the importance of someone to our lives and to let her or him know of our gratitude. Develop and attitude of gratitude; say something nice. You will be glad that you did.
