Thankful Thursday – Susanne Jeter

On this Thankful Thursday I am grateful for the gifts that Susanne Jeter brings to my life. Susanne is a fellow Furman graduate. Her late husband, Bill, is missed by all who knew him.  She is an involved member of First Baptist Church and is a member of the diaconate and the First Baptist School Foundation. She plays hand bells and is involved with the children’s  music program. She is a former member of the First Baptist School Board where she always advocated for the highest standards and improved teacher compensation. She is a counselor in private practice and an organist. She rotates among several churches on Sundays and on special occasions. She received her Master’s degree from the Citadel. She supervises student teachers for Charleston Southern University. Susanne is a strong supporter of the Hamrick Lectures. She is a world traveler. Her travel schedule makes me envious. Of course, Susanne enjoys plays and concerts. She has a great sense of humor and is a coffee drinker of the highest order. On this Thankful Thursday, I am very happy that Susanne Jeter is a part of my life.

Thankful Thursday is a day set aside to recognize the importance of someone to our lives and to let her or him know of our gratitude. Develop an attitude of gratitude. Say Something Nice; Be a Lifter. You will be glad that you did.

Thankful Thursday – Paula Carl

On this Thankful Thursday I am thankful for the gifts that Paula Carl brings to my life. Paula and Roger comprise a great couple, but Roger will be back next week. Paula grew up in Missouri. She graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She comes from a family of ministers. Somewhere in her pilgrimage she met and married Roger. They eventually migrated to Nashville where she formed great friendships in the church music groups. She is an accomplished musician. She composes and arranges music. She is an organist, a singer and a conductor. She is an in demand organist playing at numerous churches throughout the lowcountry. She directs the senior choir at First Baptist Church and James Island Baptist Church. These choirs have performed at the Hamrick Lectureship and they routinely visit nursing centers where they are always greeted with great enthusiasm. Paula and Roger are great travelers and have visited tons of gardens, cathedrals, organ concerts and castles all over Europe. They are devoted members of the National Trust and have an appreciation for all things historic. Paula is an extraordinary hostess and relishes all things blue. Both bring a love for the history, traditions and worshipfulness of First Baptist Church of Charleston. On this Thankful Thursday, I am grateful for the many gifts Paula Carl brings to my life.
