On this Thankful Thursday I am grateful for the gifts that Louise Ravenel Dougherty brings to my life. She has fought an unrelenting lifelong battle for programs for children and adults with disabilities. She was one of the first to welcome me to Charleston and was always there to lend a helping hand as we faced challenge after challenge. She was very involved on the national as well as local scene. She invited me to meet with national leaders when they came to her home in Charleston. She and Arthur opened many doors that without their help would have been inaccessible to me. It is safe to say that much of the progress that has been made in South Carolina is due in no small part to her efforts and leadership. Louise founded and then directed the South Carolina Protection and Advocacy Organization for 20 years. She is always a very positive, upbeat and encouraging person. On this Thankful Thursday, I am blessed that Louise Ravenel Dougherty is a part of my life.

Thankful Thursday is a day set aside to recognize the importance of someone to our lives and let her or him know of our gratitude. Develop an attitude of gratitude. Say Something Nice; Be a Lifter. You will be glad that you did.
