On this Thankful Thursday, I am grateful for the gifts that Mary Ann and Pete Martin bring to my life. Mary Ann grew up in South Carolina and graduated from Columbia College. She moved to Colorado and then California to teach. Pete grew up in Detroit and migrated to San Diego where he and Mary Ann met. Pete served in the Navy. He and Mary Ann moved to Charleston in the late 60s. Pete managed the Adios Warehouse. We met when Mary Ann and my late wife, Liz, worked part-time with Bill Daniels at Tidelands Realty. Pete later worked with the carillon bell company on Johns Island.  Pete is a master cabinet maker and has built several pieces of furniture for me. His workmanship is amazing. Mary Ann is a teacher, but has volunteered for several years now in the office at Blessed Sacrament School. They are active members at St. Joseph Catholic Church where Pete has contributed much of the cabinetry. Pete went with me to see Bishop Guglielmone when I was seeking the Bishop’s support for Say Something Nice Sunday.  Mary Ann and Pete were rocks of support when Liz died. I will be forever grateful to them. They are remarkable thoughtful and generous friends. They are two of the original members of the Wednesday Night Dinner Group. On this Thankful Thursday, I am thankful for the gifts that Mary Ann and Pete Martin bring to my life.

Thankful Thursday is a day set aside to recognize the importance of someone to our lives and to let her or him know of our gratitude. Develop an attitude of gratitude. Say Something Nice; Be a Lifter. You will be glad that you did.
