On this Thankful Thursday, I am thankful for the gifts that Skippy Weil brings to my life. Skippy is one of my Optimist Club of Charleston friends. He and the late Bennett Murray were in the army together which explains a lot. Their misadventures were re-lived by each of them with great gusto. Bennett, who worked in the supply room, told about Skippy getting in the huge laundry hamper and sleeping the time away. Perhaps Skippy was testing the material for mattress covers or stuffing. Skippy is also willing to give a helping hand. He took his turn selling Christmas trees along with the rest of us when that was our fund raiser for our youth projects. He could put his hand in the bare spot as well as anyone, although for Skippy they were Honaker bushes. Skippy has a laugh that is contagious. He broadened my understanding and perceptions about Judaism for which I am grateful. Dana, his wife of long suffering, has to be made of special stuff to endure so well and so good naturedly. On this Thankful Thursday I am glad that Skippy Weil is a part of my life.
