On this Thankful Thursday, I am grateful for the presence of Bobby and Rose Boston in my life. Bobby and I first became friends at Furman University where I knew him as Bob. Eventually we both landed in Charleston. Bobby became the minister at Circular Congregational Church and later started their counseling center. Don and Martha Gardner often left after my Sunday school class at FBC to go hear Bobby at Circular. Bobby and Rose were married while he was at Furman. He attended the Columbia Theological Seminary in Georgia and pastored a small rural church. They migrated to Kansas City where he was an associate pastor and became famous for praying for snow. His prayers were answered abundantly that year. Bobby was a chaplain during the Vietnam War. He came to Charleston to start a new Presbyterian Church in Summerville. He and Rose purchased the home of Lucille Maclennan. Roughly ten years ago, he started a wonderful service with his therapy dog, Holly. They go to schools where the children read to Holly. Holly also visits the VA Hospital and the Presbyterian Home in Summerville. One of the ladies made Holly a clerical collar. Both Bostons are avid gardeners and Rose is a great baker. Recently they have joined the Park Circle Presbyterian Church where he says he is just a regular member not a clergyman. He is a mainstay of the Monday Lunch Bunch. He is currently writing his memoirs and reads portions to Carol and me from time to time. He and Rose share a wonderful life together.  On this Thankful Thursday, I am grateful for the gifts that Rose and Bobby Boston bring to my life.

Thankful Thursday is a day set aside to recognize the importance of someone to our lives and to let her or him know of our gratitude. Develop an attitude of gratitude. Say Something Nice; Be a Lifter. You will be glad that you did.
